Paris - what can I say?
These have been a few highlights from our adventure. The pics on the blog represent about 5% of the 3,300 we took but we wanted to share a taste of what we experienced. It was so fun reading everyone's comments as we went along and being able to share this moment with everyone.
Love and Hugs,
- Dane and Em

London and Paris Part I
We weren't going to try to squeeze anything more into our itinerary, but we just had to go to London to experience the Bible Tours at the British Museum. They are only done on Saturdays so we rearranged things to be in London on the 27th and signed up for two tours. The pictures of the tours don't really explain much, but they let us take video so we'd love to have you over and we can watch them together.
Magical Paris was only lacking a soundtrack as we wandered around the charming streets.

Rome
Rome was overwhelming so we did several tours to see the biggies and educate us on the millenniums of history.
Before we left for Europe we found a really neat article in the July 8, 2001 Awake! about Rome that we took along site seeing - the quotes below some of the pics are from that article.

Pompeii Ruins & Amalfi Coast
The ruins at Pompeii and nearby Herculaneum were such an amazing connection with people who lived almost 2000 years ago. Touching their homes, where they cooked, slept and played.
We took a bus ride down the crazy cliff roads of the Amalfi Coast and were able to catch some of the stunning scenery.

Florence, Sardinia, Naples
Off to more art, celebrating our 8th year anniversary, and oh yeah birth place of pizza!
The adventure continues in Florence. Our tour guide really illuminated the Medieval architecture and how people lived in the 12 and 1300s.
Sardinia was refreshingly low-key - sharing a villa with some of our PDX (and one of our Alaskan) friends. We didn't get any pics that truly captured the gorgeous beaches and crystal clear Mediterranean water but we had some very refreshing hours lying on the beach, swimming and snorkeling at the beach 30 meters from the house we were staying at. The Nuraghi ruins (still Sardinia) from 3500 years ago blew us away. The guide helped us understand some of their lives and what they went through to survive. They did have a room they believe served as a type of refrigeration, so I don't know what the drama is about. :-)
Naples made us understand where New York driving came from. Also the sass. It was culture shock from Sardinia to this intense city, but the birth place of pizza eased the transition. The National Archaeological Museum houses most of the artifacts from Pompeii and also an extensive collection from 300-500 BC - mostly from tombs. Again - Wow.
We took a chill day today in Sorrento. Tomorrow it's Pompeii, then Amalfi Coast, then we head off to Rome.
Hope it's sunnier there than it was here today! It felt like we were back home!
Ciao!

Cinque Terre, Sienna, Florence
The Europe trip continues - Cinque Terre, Sienna, Florence:
As requested pictorial PROOF that I'm (Emily) on the trip. Thanks everyone for making me pose!
The train rides are a lot of fun. We see lots of the countryside and amazing old villas and it's a big step up from eating in the car, especially when its the local goodies! Once again, we were BLOWN AWAY by Jehovah's creation! The 7 mile coastal hike along Cinque Terre (5 Towns) was breathtaking. The great sunset pic is the view from the back balcony of where we stayed. Part of the hike was nicknamed "Via dell' Amore" ("Lovers Lane") hence the campy pic on the bench.
Sienna changed our idea of what Medieval Europe was like. Very interesting. Florence lives up to its reputation as a mecca of art. We can't take it all in - it's overwhelming. All we can say so far is Art, Art and More Art. The gelato is helping keep us cool.
We leave Florence Sat for Sardinia for a much needed LONG nap and chillin on the beach with some of our PDX buddies.
Hope everyone is doing well!!! Miss you all!

Europe Adventure Begins: Venice, Milan & Lake Como
We took a trip of a lifetime (for us) in September 2008. It was 5 weeks in Europe in multiple towns from Italy to Paris, then to London. Here are excerpts from a photo blog we were keeping at the time but we don't update anymore:
Hey All
We CANT believe we're here!!! We just picked a few highlights - Venice: from the walks through town, the Doge's Palace, the Grande Canal and St Mark's square and Basillica. In Milan there is this CRAZY church. Took 400 years to build and it shows! We're chillin today at Lake Como but wanted to say "Hi". Our only sadness is that all our great pals can't be here to share it with us. Love and Hugs!!!
